Round 3: Globalisation- It benefits all eventually. Do you agree?

Use the following sources to give your opinion on the given issue of whether Globalisation benefits all eventually?
Are there limitations to the sources in answering the issue well?

Dateline: 12/11 Midnight

Getting Better!!

For those who commented on the comments of your peers, great job!! As i was reading i was heartened to see how some of you managed to find the loop holes in the answers of others and are able to give your own input. This truly benefits not just you but also your peers as we are deeping our understanding as a class:)

Lets keep this up!:) Ok now our final round will be up. This time only first 10 comments to answer questions and subsequently the rest should be providing feedback and peer evaluation.

Ms Faith:)

Round 2: Globalisation

Source 1:

1) Is the Cartoonist a supporter or opponent of Globalisation? Why do you say so?

Source 2
1) What is the caroonist trying to say from the cartoon below?

3) Are Source 1 and 2 saying the same things? If yes, explain your stand. If no, explain why you say so?

Well done!

Dear 3/3

Good to see many of you making an effort to use the skills taught in class to decipher the sources. Most of you were spot on regarding your analysis of what the cartoons meant.

Now lets make things abit more challenging to stretch our thinking. The next round of cartoons are going to be on the topic of Globalisation. Though this is a topic yet to be taught, i believe it is not a new word to many. It is a phenomena that you would have heard about in other subjects, from the media and are even active participants of without you being conscious of it! To get a better understanding on this topic read on the cover story on Globalisation- What has it got to do with me? from the So What? Humanities magazines given to you.

For Round 2 lets make a few adjustments:

1) Only the first 15 comments will answer questions asked of cartoons directly.
2) Subsequent comments have to comment on the posted entries rather than asnwer the questions. This will help refine our understanding of the cartoons. So comment on your friends' analysis of the cartoon. Do you agree with him or her? Is there anything else your friend may have missed? etc

Regards
Ms Faith

Round 1: Appeasement policy

Source 1

1) What do you think the cartoon is trying to say?

2) Do you agree with the cartoonist

Source 2

1) What can you learn from the cartoon?

2) Why did the cartoonist draw this cartoon?

Sources from: Online catalogue of Political Cartoons by Dr Seuss

Feel free to comment on the above questions. You do not need to use the exact SBQ formats as required for exams. The objective is to engage in a lively discussion on what the political cartoons mean:)

Dateline for comments for Round 1: 6/11/09 (Friday by midnight)

Hello and Introduction to Research Project

Great Picture by the way!:)

OK class. We are embarking on a research project to determine the usefulness of peer evaluation and technology in helping you to understand political cartoons better. You have already been exposed to the various skills required to understand sources in class. On top of these you were also given the following:

1) So What Humanities Magazine from Marshall Cavendish
- Refer to the 'Cartoon Analysis' Section. This gives a step by step method to understand cartoons.

There will be three to four rounds to this project. And each round will only take a day.
For each round, you are to come into this blog, take a look at the cartoons posted and address the questions. You can choose to make comments on any cartoon as long as you have entered at least a minimum of ONE comment.

Some final notes. Use proper english and anonymity is not allowed. If you have a point, do not be shy, own it and state your name!

Moreover, your name is required for the teachers to keep track of the one student=one comment status. This is compulsory and believe me at the end of it you will also realise that you have become better at understanding cartoons through reading the shared inputs of your peers:)

Enjoy!

Ms Faith:)

HELLO! This blog is so dead.

Happy Birthday Jonathan Lim! (Although i don't even know if you will see this :/)

-

I know I'm the only Chinese Dancer in class,
not only that, but also the only person in class whose SYF isn't over,
so everybody must wish me luck okay!

-

Plus, everybody must study for tmrw's Physics test okay!
I won't be taking it until Wednesday. Hahaha.
Extra time to study.

Anyway, that means i've to study doubly hard because there will be Econs test on Wednesday as well! Don't forget alright! :D

I believe if we have any problem in our studies we can always approach our various subject teachers for consultation! Just like Mrs Tan or Ms Faith. I know they'd be glad to teach you when you're so willing to learn! (:
